James (he/him), as one of our co-founders, had the vision for North Carolina Therapy Professionals being a practice that develops and supports high quality clinicians, and invests heavily in the happiness and well being of our therapists. As our Clinical Director, he oversees all clinical operations including hiring, in-house training and supervision. As a clinician in the practice he specializes in serving couples and poly relationships, families with adult children, individuals with relationship concerns, and providing Emotionally Focused Therapy Consultation and Clinical Social Work Licensure Supervision.
James is a self-described “therapy nerd,” always interested in what else there is to learn about the practice of healing and growth through psychotherapy, the development and nurturing of therapists, and finding his own and others’ growing edges and cultivating those spaces. James is a graduate of New York University's Silver School of Social Work, and has been a practitioner for nearly 20 years. In addition to his certifications in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Discernment Counseling, he is currently pursuing post-graduate certification in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, and is in depth-oriented study and supervision of various other models and theories of psychotherapy including studies on the Working Alliance, Facilitative Interpersonal Skills, the Person of the Therapist, Deliberate Practice, Dialogic Practice, and Relational Psychoanalysis. In his life outside of being a therapist, James enjoys free time with his wife and child, their dog and cat, cycling, playing guitar and writing & recording music (metal and hardcore), cooking and food, and science fiction and action movies and series.
