therapy for Adults

Everyone deserves support

What was once known as "The Talking Cure" made famous by Sigmund Freud, psychotherapy is a field of healing arts that encompasses a wide range of theories and methods including psychoanalysis & psychodynamic therapies, cognitive behavioral therapies, relational therapies, emotion focused & experiential therapies, and somatic therapies.  While for years there were academic and industry fights about which therapy is "best" and for what problems, it is now scientifically evidenced that psychotherapy for adults, independent of the method or model used, is a highly effective treatment for a variety of common problems.  The relationship between therapist and client/patient is the most important aspect of therapy identified, and our therapists are trained and supported to facilitate the best possible experience for their clients.

We believe that everyone of us is born in good psychological health at our core, and it is the conditions of our lives that influence how much that health is cultivated or thwarted.  When our caregivers, families, friends and communities show up for us in ways that are responsive, emotionally engaged and accessible, we develop flexible ways of managing our feelings and dealing with problems life throws our way.  But when our caregivers, families, friends and communities turn away from us, or turn against us, leaving us alone with our emotions to make sense of them by ourselves, we develop adaptations to deal with life problems that exclude feeling or leave us reeling to the detriment of being calm, responsive to others and ourselves, and locked out of our inner resources including our own core emotions, the transformational forces within, and our Core Self that is creative, curious, compassionate and courageous.  This is how we understand clients wind up with problems and difficulties that bring them to therapy:  What once worked to help them survive has found its limit, and our clients are ready to feel better.

And our therapists know that the Core Self, the healer within, is always waiting to be recovered and amplified, and that through compassionately accessing and processing core emotions, corrective relational experiences, and the transformational experiences found in their wake, we maximize access to the secure Core Self we were born with but had to hide and protect.

In individual therapy for adults, our therapists treat issues including:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Marginalization and Oppression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress
  • Addictions
  • Relationship Difficulties and Interpersonal Problems
  • Adjustment Problems
  • Eating Disorders
  • Languishing

While our therapists are supported to train in state of the art psychotherapeutic methods including ACT, AEDP, EFT, IFS, EMDR, DBT, and other therapies, our therapists deliberately practice the Facilitative Interpersonal Skills science evidences maximizes therapeutic effect of any therapy method, and our therapists are supported to attend to their own experiences ("Self of the Therapist) in a way that maximizes their abilities to respond effectively to clients moment-to-moment.  Our therapists know how to facilitate healing and growth towards clients' goals, and to support clients through rough patches and dark spots in their lives.

Our North Carolina Licensed individual adult therapists are in the process of being paneled in-network with BCBS-NC (contract pending), but for the time being can accept clients who can pay out-of-pocket, including with reduced fee options for those clients who require them.  To learn more about our therapists and to connect, please visit our pages about particular problems treated, treatments provided, locations, and populations served.
